Our story starts with a passion for design. We spent more than 15 years combined studying and practicing in the field of architecture. During that time we had the opportunity to explore the cutting edge of design using digital manufacturing technologies like 3D Printing, Laser Cutting and CNC Machining.
These tools are creating a fascinating bridge between the physical world and the digital one. We quickly became obsessed with the possibility of exploring how these tools could allow the manufacture of computer generated forms that were unachievable through traditional means. We had fantastic opportunities to exercise this expertise in ambitious large scale architectural projects with stunning results.
As exciting as all of these developments were, the reality in most cases is that the building industry is slow moving and conservative. The projects where we were able to employ the full potential of these new fabrication methods were relatively rare as the capital involved is immense, so stakeholders have a certain natural aversion to risk and experimentation.
At roughly the same time, the world was witnessing an explosion in the development of high tech software startups who employ lightning fast agility in adapting and developing novel solutions to industry and consumer problems. The recent development of low cost digital fabrication equipment, like desktop 3D printers, brought to light the possibility that this kind of agility could be brought to the development of physical products as it has software.
These developments inspired us to venture out and found Hot Pop Factory. We strongly believe that in the coming years a transition will occur in which the mass production of goods is supplemented and eventually supplanted by mass customization. We believe these technologies will facilitate a future where most of the physical goods we own, will be built, custom, one of a kind, just for you.
We hope you'll join us for the journey!
